The university cultural centre Casa de Porras is located in the Albayzín district and is managed by its students. This centre is attached to the Students Vice-rectorate of the University of Granada. Casa de Porras hosts many cultural activities such as workshops, exhibitions, concerts, talks and lectures. The building is a small Mudejar-style palace from the 16th century.
Casa de Porras (also known as the Casa del Estudiante) works intensively throughout the year to promote cultural activities in the city of Granada. It also aims to enable students to gain new skills and abilities in an exciting learning environment. At Casa de Porras it is possible to choose from over 50 different types of vocational courses and activities.
It hosts exhibitions and provides members of the university community and public the opportunity to display their artworks free of charge, set up courses and workshops, and hold seminars.
The house has different interesting elements: a Renaissance façade, a central courtyard with a cistern, and an engaged column below. The large rear courtyard is used for cultural activities promoted by the Students Vice rectorate of the University of Granada.
